Barranco District

Barranco is one of the picturesque districts of Lima. It is known for its bohemian bars and nightlife. Getting to Barranco is easy, you can walk from the Miraflores district (15 min from the famous LarcoMar Mall) or take a taxi. If you want to walk, we recommend you go along the boardwalk so you can have a beautiful view of the Lima coast.

As main tourist attractions we have the Plazuela Chabuca Granda, the Peruvian singer-songwriter creator of one of the most emblematic songs of the city of Lima, «La Flor de la Canela» and the Bridge of Sighs; which takes its name from a legend in which a young man in love, not being reciprocated by his beloved and a victim of depression, decides to commit suicide by throwing himself off the bridge, but before that he takes “a last gasp/sigh”. Others say that if you walk across the bridge and hold your breath thinking of a love wish, it will come true.

Nearby we find the Catalina Recavarren viewpoint where you can watch the sunset and have a coffee or cocktail. Another picturesque place is the “Bajada de Baños” where we can go to the Barranquina beach.

Barranco has its main square where the Santísima Cruz Church is located, as well as the Municipal Library and the Chabuca Granda promenade.

Other of its main attractions is the Pedro de Osma museum which has the most important collection of colonial art in Peru, in addition to being located in a beautiful colonial mansion of the time. You can also visit the MATE museum where there is a photography exhibition by the famous Peruvian photographer Mario Testino who has portrayed many important figures including actors, politicians, kings, among others. If modern art is your thing, don’t forget to visit the MAC (Museum of Contemporary Art).

Barranco is full of life especially at night. We can find several restaurants, bars, nightclubs, where you can have a good time with friends or family and if it is about gastronomy, do not forget to visit Mercado 28.
