Information about Peru
Peru is located in South America and has as neighbouring countries to the north: Ecuador and Colombia; to the east Brazil and Bolivia; to the south with Chile and to the west attached to the Pacific Ocean. It has an area of 1,285,216.20 km² and is divided by the Andes mountain range. Peru is one of the 17 countries with the greatest biodiversity, great variety of ecosystems, greatest mineral resources, flora and fauna in the world.
Ancient Peru was home to several important civilizations such as Caral – Supe (the oldest in America and considered the cradle of civilization); the Nazca, Chavín, and Mochica culture, among others. It was the cradle of the Inca civilization, later conquered by the Spanish and in 1821 made independent as a Democratic Republic.
Some of the main natural attractions are: the Amazon, the Gocta waterfalls, the Tambopata Nature Reserve, the Manu Nature Reserve, Lake Titicaca, the Colca Canyon, the Misti volcano, the Huacachina lagoon, and the Paracas Reserve, among others. However, Peru is best known for the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu (one of the new 7 wonders of the world), located in Cusco.

The people of Peru are characterized by its friendliness and hospitality. In the vast majority of tourist places there is surveillance and security. Always check with the hotel about the place/area of the city you want to visit.
The currency used is the Sol. In the city, you will find currency exchange locations or banks where you can exchange currency. During your stay, carry the necessary cash with you, coins and low-denomination bills. Credit cards are also accepted.
In the city, most hotels, restaurants and some main parks have free Wi-Fi connection. If you wish, you can buy a simcard upon arrival at the airport with a data package or activate your roaming.
Some travel tips:
- Peru is a gastronomic paradise. Go ahead and taste its food and fruits. You will be amazed.
- Peru has many cultural festivities in the year, ask us so that you will be able to know some of them so that they can coincide with your trip.
- You can bargain for the purchases you make. Do have a little fun with that.
- Learn some basic words in Spanish. A percentage of people speak English but it is not very common, especially in areas outside Lima.
- Do not drink tap water.
- If you take or take photos with vicuñas, llamas, women or children in traditional dress, they will ask for money in exchange. This generally occurs in Cuzco and its surroundings.
